New President, James Ogurek, BC-HIS, Starts Term

James Ogurek, BC-HIS

James Ogurek, BC-HIS, began his two-year term as president of the International Hearing Society (IHS) on January 1, 2007.    Ogurek is a long-standing, active and valued member of the Society and has been a licensed hearing instrument dispenser since 1977, underscoring his proven commitment to the profession and the hearing impaired we serve.

“Jim is a very talented and driven individual, and we have the utmost confidence in him as he begins his term of presidency,” stated Harlan Cato, immediate past president.  “His previous leadership accomplishments as well as his passion for his patients makes Jim the best choice for the position.  I look forward to seeing great things from him and the organization,” Cato continued.

Ogurek, a second generation hearing instrument specialist, is president of Hearing Solutions, serving 13 Wisconsin counties since 1984.  He received his Bachelor’s degree in Economics from the University of Wisconsin-Stevens Point and his Master’s degree in Applied Economics from Marquette University.  Ogurek’s previous service with IHS includes his work as Treasurer and Central Territory Governor.  He has also served numerous posts on both the Wisconsin Hearing and Speech Examining Board and the Wisconsin Alliance of Hearing Professionals.

“I am honored and excited to serve as the president of IHS.  We have many challenging goals and objectives to accomplish this year.  By working together with all IHS members, staff, manufacturers, allied associations, regulators, media, and the hearing impaired public, I am confident we will accomplish much over the next two years,” said Ogurek.

Chris Gustafson, BC-HIS, ACA, is the Society’s new president-elect.
