About this Course
The Distance Learning for Professionals in Hearing Health Sciences Course is designed for aspiring Hearing Aid Specialists. Completing this structured coursework alongside hands-on training is the most effective way to build the expertise needed to pass your licensing exams and set the foundation of exceptional care for your patients in your new career. In some states, it is a required or recommended prerequisite for licensure.
The course is built to complement practical, hands-on training. We strongly recommend enrolling while actively working as an apprentice or trainee to maximize learning and accelerate your path to professional readiness.


Course Outline
The course is broken into 7 units. Each new unit builds on the previous.
- The Professional at Work
- Hearing and the Auditory System
- Audiometric Assessment and Additional Testing
- Interpretation and Presentation of Audiometric Test Results
- Ear Impressions, Acoustic Couplers, and Hearing Aids
- Hearing Aid Fitting and Delivery
- Post-Fitting Care and Counseling
The Final Exam
The Final Exam will become available in the e-Learning Portal course when all course activities are complete.
Taking the Final Exam
The Final Exam is not printable and must be taken “closed book,” meaning you may not use or reference any books or study materials when taking the exam. Students have 120 minutes to complete the 80-question exam. The exam is proctored online in the e-Learning Portal with AI-Assist. Suspicious behavior during the exam will be investigated. Students must meet the following technical specifications:
- Use Mozilla Firefox or Google Chrome browsers
- Allow access to webcam and microphone
- Show photo ID
- Be in a room free from disturbances
How to Pass the Final Exam
Students must answer every question before submitting the exam. The exam score is shown immediately after submission with an option to view a “competency diagnostic” report that shows their performance on the different topic areas of the exam and provides study suggestions. To pass the Final Exam, students must earn a 72% or higher. Students may take the Final Exam as many times as needed to pass. There is no penalty for re-taking it.
