  • Can I still use ILE Test Prep even if my local licensing exam is not the International Licensing Examination for Hearing Healthcare Professionals (ILE)?

In short, yes, it can still be used as a study companion for other licensing examinations. The content on other licensing exams is likely similar. However, it’s important to note that we cannot guarantee consistency between the material in ILE Test Prep and your specific licensing exam.

  • Can ILE Test Prep train a student for a career as a Hearing Aid Specialist?

No, this online subscription cannot prepare someone for licensed practice by itself. Aspiring students should first enroll in the Distance Learning for Professionals in Hearing Health Sciences course to gain the foundational knowledge necessary for independent practice. Use of ILE Test Prep would come after completion of the Final Exam in the course to prepare for the written licensing exam. ILE Test Prep is a great tool to follow the Distance Learning Course as it references specific chapters and sections in the course materials for students to refresh their knowledge from the course. The full process for becoming a Hearing Aid Specialist is explained on the Become a Hearing Aid Specialist page.

  • Do I need formal training in order to take the International Licensing Examination for Hearing Healthcare Professionals (ILE)?

Requirements vary by jurisdiction, so please contact your licensing agency for information. Because the exam is practice-based, it is unlikely that you can be successful on the ILE without clinical experience. Both the academic training and workplace training pathways into becoming a Hearing Aid Specialist can provide the knowledge and skills needed to be successful. Learn more about preparing to become a Hearing Aid Specialist here.

  • Do I need to bring anything with me the day of my exam?

Yes, when going to the testing center for your exam appointment, you will need to bring a valid, physical, unexpired photo ID – the name on your ID must match exactly the name on your test-taker web account. If your name has changed recently, it is strongly recommended that you call IHS to confirm the name on your test-taker account prior to your exam. You will also need to bring your Registration Confirmation email, either printed or on your phone. Phones must be stored in your car or the secure storing area provided by the testing center after presenting the confirmation email. If you don’t have the email, check your spam/junk folder. Call IHS if you cannot locate it.  Arrive early, giving yourself plenty of time to park and figure out where you’re going. If you arrive late, you may not be permitted to take the exam. You cannot bring personal possessions. Any testing aids (calculator, scratch paper, etc.) are not permitted in the testing center. Most testing centers have a secure area for storing your essential items (i.e., car keys) during your test.

You must adhere to IHS’ standards of conduct during the exam as well as any instructions or directives from testing center staff. Refer to the Standards of Conduct as listed here.

  • Do I need to re-take the exam if I want to be licensed in another state/province?

If you have already passed the ILE, some licensing agencies will allow you to bypass taking the ILE again if official proof is provided of your previous passing result. This only applies in jurisdictions that use the ILE as their licensing exam. Check with the licensing agency to verify their process. If your licensing agency will allow you to bypass re-taking the ILE, then you will need to follow steps to request a Score Transfer. Learn more here.

  • How can a trainer link their account with their trainee(s) account to view their progress?

This is an IHS Member exclusive benefit. The Trainer must be an IHS member to request the account link. To learn more about becoming a member, visit this page.

  • How can a trainer link their account with their trainee(s) account to view their progress?

This is an IHS Member exclusive benefit. The Trainer must be an IHS member to request the account link. As a member, you can request trainer/trainee account linkage here.

  • How do I become eligible to take the International Licensing Examination for Hearing Healthcare Professionals (ILE)?

Your licensing agency determines your eligibility to take the ILE. Eligibility requirements vary by jurisdiction, so please contact your licensing agency for information about how to become eligible to take the ILE.

  • How does ILE Test Prep work?

ILE Test Prep is an online platform that uses flashcards and previously used ILE questions in half-length quizzes to test your knowledge. The platform displays topic-level feedback and helps you identify weaknesses to help you study more efficiently. Because the questions are previously used from the ILE, this subscription allows students to familiarize themselves with the style of questions to help ease test-taking anxiety and practice with similarly formatted questions.

  • I subscribed using the 30-day option, but I need more time ahead of my licensing exam. What happens when my subscription ends? Can I extend my subscription?

Subscriptions to ILE Test Prep do not auto-renew, so your subscription will end after your selected time period. All your progress is saved, so you can simply re-subscribe using either the 30-day or 90-day subscription. Make sure to login using the same IHS Account to re-subscribe, and you’ll regain access to your progress.
