Amanda Bonner, BC-HIS, serves IHS as Central East Coast Territorial Governor, covering the states of Delaware, Maryland, New Jersey, Pennsylvania, Virginia, and West Virginia, as well as U.S. capital city Washington, D.C. Bonner has been involved with the profession for most of her life and is a third-generation Hearing Aid Specialist. After working in Human Resources and moving to South Carolina, Bonner was encouraged to interview for and shadow the Hearing Aid Specialist profession. She has passionately served the hearing impaired ever since. As governor, Bonner was thrust into legal action when West Virginia’s licensing board was in danger of being sunset and regulatory proposals were drafted to limit the scope of practice for Hearing Aid Specialists. Bonner said, “IHS has been a critical resource to helping me fight back against restrictive legislation, protect our industry, protect our licensure, and as a result, be able to protect our patients and the care and service they deserve.” Bonner’s unwavering determination was recognized and awarded when she was selected for the James P. Lovell Advocacy Award in 2023.
