Karin Schmidt, BC-HIS, is the IHS Central East Territorial Governor, covering Indiana, Kentucky, Michigan, and Ohio. A devoted mother, Schmidt’s career in hearing healthcare began after taking time away from the workforce to raise her children. After responding to a recruiting advertisement in her local newspaper, Schmidt joined the profession, became licensed, and almost simultaneously became a member of IHS. Over her 20-year career, Schmidt has been board certified, an owner of two successful practices, served in various board positions for the Indiana Hearing Alliance, and currently serves as Vice-Chair on Indiana’s state licensing board.

Schmidt joined the IHS Board of Governors on January 1, 2025, following an election by her territorial peers. She viewed the opportunity as a way to give back to IHS for what they’ve done for the state of Indiana.

In her free time, Schmidt relishes the time she gets to spend with her three children and daughter-in-law, as well as her three dogs and three grand-dogs. She loves to travel and has especially fallen in love with snorkeling in the crystal blue waters of the Caribbean.
