The Advanced Hearing Aid Professional (AHAP) Program offers:

ACA to AHAP Expedited Track

Pathway for American Conference of Audioprosthology (ACA) graduates.

Full Program Structure

The full AHAP program consists of two terms hosted online within our e-Learning Portal and a Hands-On Workshop conducted in-person.

Term One

Self-paced online learning with feedback from instructors, optional live sessions, and peer engagement. All enrollees will complete the same modules.

Current cohort running from November 3, 2025 to February 28, 2026

Term Two

Self-paced online learning with feedback from instructors, optional live sessions, and peer engagement. Enrollees will complete mostly the same modules, but will have a choice of an elective.

Current cohort running from from March 1 to July 31, 2026

Hands-On Workshop

Some of the topics covered require hands-on instruction and practice to fully master the skills, such as ear impressions and probe microphone measures. Workshop location will be at or near the IHS World Headquarters in Farmington Hills, Michigan. Additional sessions will be added if required based on enrollment. Enrollees should confirm they will be available to travel relevant dates prior to enrolling.

Expedited ACA to AHAP Program Structure

Graduates of the American Conference of Audioprosthology (ACA) are eligible to enroll in an expedited AHAP program track, recognizing their coursework from the legacy program. This track is currently underway through July 2026 and bestows the AHAP credential upon graduation.

Online Content

Self-paced online learning with feedback from instructors, optional live sessions, and peer engagement. The expedited path exempts ACA credential holders from certain modules based on previous learning.

The required modules are: 1, 4, 5, 10, and an elective of your choice (Practice Management or Cerumen Management)

Hands-On Workshop

Eligibility

To be eligible to enroll in the AHAP Program, you must be a fully licensed, registered, or certified hearing aid professional. Your license must be in good standing in your jurisdiction and remain active throughout your enrollment in the program. Licensure will be verified by the IHS team.     

While not required, it is suggested that you have two or more years of full-time, licensed, clinical experience in hearing aid fitting and dispensing prior to enrollment.  

Continuing Education

Earn at least 82 continuing education (CE) credits when you complete the program. CE credits are awarded as you complete each module, provided all required learning activities are finished. Depending on your participation and program updates, you may earn more than 82 credits at IHS’ discretion. If you choose to complete both elective courses in Module 12, you’ll receive additional CE credits.

You must pay the tuition in full or sign up for installment payments to enroll. Pay in full by selecting the Enrollment button. To pay in installments, call IHS at 734-522-7200. Once you’re enrolled, the IHS team will reach out to verify your license before the program begins.

  • If I already have the ACA designation, can and should I also enroll in the AHAP program?

    Yes, it’s always a great plan to advance to the next level to provide your patients and clients exceptional care! The American Conference of Audioprosthology (ACA) was a former program that provided exceptional education, whereas the AHAP program offers more modern specialized mastery. ACA Graduates are eligible to enroll in an expedited AHAP program track, recognizing their coursework from the legacy program.

     

  • How do I become eligible to enroll in the AHAP program?

    You must be a fully licensed, registered, or certified hearing aid professional. Your license must be in good standing in your jurisdiction and remain active throughout your enrollment in the program. Licensure will be verified by the IHS team. While not required, it is recommended that you have two or more years of clinical experience prior to enrolling.  

     

  • Is the AHAP program on-demand?

    The AHAP program is structured with two (2) terms and a hands-on workshop. The two terms are virtual and self-paced, allowing participants to complete the coursework for each module on their schedule. The hands-on workshop is the only in-person component where learners participate in hands-on instruction to fully master the skills, such as ear impressions and probe microphone measures.

     

  • Can I opt out of certain modules of the AHAP program?

    In order to be awarded the AHAP designation and certificate, you must complete all required activities and assessments associated with the 12 modules and then pass the final assessment. You have a choice between two courses in Module 12. Each course in module 12 earns you a separate badge in addition to your program badge.
